How it all got started..

Our first project dates back to September 2014 when our founder Zukhra Boyette first visited a pediatric oncology hospital in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Joining a local group of MedClowns and MedPainters, Zukhra went to the hospital for some mural work. As she was mixing the paints, Zukhra got surrounded by very curious little patients all asking to paint along.

Seeing their eagerness for artwork and painting, Zukhra approached the hospital management to find if they had an art program. They did not, and so she offered to run the art and play activities on site for a duration of her stay in town.

The art activities got a high response with children. The small playroom could not accommodate all wanting to participate, and sessions had to be run in shifts. Children who were unable to attend the activities due to fatigue, were sending their mothers to collect art supplies, so they could paint in their rooms in beds.

In addition to running art activities, Zukhra raised awareness on art therapy with the hospital staff and patient caretakers sharing the pamphlets she prepared in Russian and Uzbek languages. The project was very well accepted at the hospital.

Zukhra's fulfillment with the summer activities was overpowering. She searched for nonprofits to continue volunteering upon her return to Washington DC, but couldn't find any relevant organization. Identifying the gap, she decided to found her own.

The 2014 summer volunteer activities in Tashkent have laid a foundation for creation of Pro-Cure Art.
